CAST IT    TROLL IT    JIG IT    DRIFT IT

Live Bait is some serious fish catching medicine.  It will be very difficult to duplicate the fish catching ability of the real deal with imitation baits.  Some lure manufacturers claim that their baits can out fish live bait!  I'm sure the marketing strategist that write these claims haven't spent much time fishing live bait properly.  Maybe they're not fishing for the same species of fish we are or maybe they're just trying to catch some fishermen.  I especially like those, that make the claim that there lure is so deadly it will be outlawed in most states.  Better get some while you can.

I am told by the bait & tackle dealers that 80% of the lures on the market today are primarily designed to catch fishermen.  I would like to believe this is not true and fishermen have not become the main quarry of the lure manufacturers.

When I designed the RONZ, catching fishermen was not my goal.  I knew if I designed a soft bait that could catch fish, big fish, anytime, anywhere, any place,  fishermen would eventually find out about the RONZ and fish it.

The RONZ was originally developed for striped bass fishing on Cape Cod.  Used exclusively by commercial striped bass fisherman it was dubbed the secret bait.  When I decided to sell the RONZ to bait & tackle dealers the commercial fishermen were quite upset. They knew the secret bait wouldn't be a secret anymore.  I tried to console them with the fact that they did not have to lie about what bait they were using anymore.  All I received in reply was a look of disappointment, as if I had betrayed them.  I didn't have a name on the RONZ back then, but it did have a few nicknames.  The secret bait was the first, then it was the Penetrator for a online tackle company in N.Y.  They quickly realized that customers were very unhappy about the pop-up advertisements they were receiving after using the search engines to find the penetrator.  The wife wasn't too crazy about that name either.  Then there was a group of fishermen from R.I. that called it the holy grail.  I kind of liked that one.  But then I received a phone call from a priest that fished who told me how wonderful my baits are and how he catches fish like crazy with them, but felt I should not call it the Holy Grail.  I explained to him the name was not my doing and I would consider his request.  That was about the time the secret bait was officially named the RONZ.

The RONZ is a engineered soft bait that was carefully designed from head to tail to look, act, feel and smell like the real deal.  The RONZ was intensively tested and proven on a variety of fish species both fresh and salt.  It's fish catching ability can only be matched by live bait.  The RONZ Actiontail has a life-like swimming motion that mimics a multitude of bait fish.  There is no other tail that can present such a realistic silhouette and natural movement as the RONZ.  Fishing the clear waters of Cape Cod I am able to observe the fish taking the RONZ when the strike is near the boat.  The majority of fish approach their prey from the rear.  What they see and smell at this crucial time will make the deference between a strike or follow.  The RONZ tail is impregnated with fish oil and a secret additive.  It has proven very helpful in catching the larger fish.  This scent will continue to migrate out of the bait for up to 8 years and counting.  The hook exit hole has been molded into the tail to aid in rigging the tail on to head, this will ensure proper positioning of the tail.  Remember a real bait fish does not have a crooked body or space between it's head and tail.  Take the time and rig your bait properly .  The more realistic the bait looks the more hook-ups you'll get, especially on large fish.

The RONZ Hydrohead is a very unique design that incorporates a 360 degree tail holding barb which locks the tail firmly in place.  No need for glues or re-rigging after each fish.  Surf fisherman can really let this one fly, no more baby casting.  The RONZ wedge shape nose eliminates the unnatural cork screwing motion associated with round and bullet shape heads, as the bait swims to the bottom.  The RONZ will swim from side to side as it drops to the bottom giving it a very natural life-like appearance.  You will experience numerous pick ups on the drop. Remember your bait is being watched by what lurks below as it makes it's way to the bottom.  This is usually the fishes first visual of your bait, the better it looks the better your chances are of hooking up,  especially on large fish.

When trolled or retrieved the wedge nose shape of the RONZ becomes very unstable and tends to wobble from side to side.  This motion is transmitted to the tail creating it's swimming motion.  This swimming motion is obtained without the use of unnatural looking paddle and curly tails.  The RONZ silhouette and action  imitates the real deal.  I am repeating myself, but this last detail is very important if you want to catch large fish on fake baits.

Think and see like a fish!
